Original 19th Century Wax Gargoyle Mask Molds for Carousel, Architectural Salvag.
Wonderful original late 19th century heavy wax gargoyle mask molds for carousel decoration. Architecturally salvage they measure 11” by 8” by 4” and were originally used as templates for aluminum, plaster and later fiberglass gargoyles that decorated early carousels. They are heavy solid industrial wax, and can be hung, they feel like pottery but are actually wax. Part of a 19th century folk art collection they were found at a west coast estate. Gruesome, whimsical and grotesque, they are fascinating.
