    Recovered in Newport RI during demolition of an old house where this brick along with others were part of a fireplace chimney
    These small peanut bricks, called that because of their size were, used as ballast in the hills of merchant ships from Great Britain that traded commerce in Newport RI in the 17 th and 18th centu
    These ballast bricks were left behind in Newport RI as other goods were loaded fir the return trip to England. Local people collected the bricks for use in building chimneys, fireplaces, mantels, walls, walkways.
