Lettering good.    The clay deposits were exceptional all along the major rivers and off shore island due to the clay left behind by the receding ICE AGE GLACIERS.   C. L. Sanford had a construction company in QUEENS County, Long Island NY.   With the boom of immigration to the US and industry, there was a huge need for bricks for building public schools, factories, textile mills, municipal buildings.   C. L. Sanford established a brick yard in Southhold, Suffolk County, Long Island NY.    With rail and barges close by, C. L. Sanford was able to ship his bricks all over the Northeastern US.   This particular brick was recovered at low tide in Newport RI off one of the local beaches.    In the days prior to strick EPA regulations, it was common for discarded materials to be dumped into the ocean or along unused beach areas to be washed out to see to include old construction debris, bricks, masonry, wood, etc.    This brick shows it age with a rather large white stone exposed along one of the sides.    This is a real find as it shows the GRITTY HISTORY of brick making in the NEW YORK CITY area / LONG ISLAND.     This is a great gift for people who work in construction or are serious collectors of BRICK, MASONRY, or TILE>    Your purchase will be carefully wrapped to prevent damage during shipping    The brick will be mailed by USPS MEDIUM FLAT RATE BOX, if it fits, it ships for one low price.    Please examine the photos carefully as this is the exact item that you will be receiving.   Thank you for your interest and in preserving a piece of antique brick history.
