    Description

1880. Antique clay Brick B J ALLISON AND Company , RARE, HUDSON RIVER NEW YORK. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box.
A major center for the industry was Haverstraw (in Rockland County, NY) located at the widest point on the river, where prime raw material in the rich, blue clay, and a skilled local workforce combined to make the area "the Brick making capital of the world”.
This brick was recovered at low tide along the Atlantic Ocean off Newport RI. In the 20th Century, demolition debris was often deposited at the beach or into the ocean to be taken away by the waves. Great IDEA for a gift for BRICK COLLECTORS. The clay deposits along the north east US rivers and coast line from the receding Ice Age Glaciers, were superior for making bricks. Steel was not in wide spread use in the late 19th century during the industrial revolution. 20 million bricks would be needed along with old growth fir timbers to build a 4 story textile mill for example.
This brick is rare and if you are a serious collector of antique brick, masonry, or tile, you want this brick in your collection. I have only one in stock and only one for sale. Do not delay, if you want it, buy today.
Often a company will have its name in one form or another such as block letters, a symbol, or script lettering. This brick was used as advertising in a 440 brick palette . Not all of the bricks in a palette were named.
Please examine the photo carefully as these are the bricks you will receive. This brick will be carefully wrapped to prevent breakage during shipment. It will be mailed using USPS FLAT RATE Medium Box. A BRICKS FIT SAFELY in A USPS FLAT RATE MEDIUM BOX> A great addition to any collection of TILES, BRICKS, and MASONRY. Thank you for your interest and consideration.
